There is a problem with much of the current rhetoric claiming that the automation of industry is leading to the annihilation of jobs and/or the enslavement of humanity.

1) “By 2016 e-commerce comprised just 8.3 percent ($102.7 billion) of the total retail market ($1.2 trillion). While that’s a big number in absolute dollars, it’s also less than the amount that retail sales regularly fluctuate due to changes in the weather.” Can’t the impact of Amazon still be very important, even if the effect of weather is more than that of Amazon?
2) Why is e-commerce still, 25 years into the Internet, only 8.3 percent of the total retail market?
