Description: What’s in a name? A lot, apparently. Apple’s new iPhone is called the iPhone 4S. But what people really wanted was the iPhone 5.

The rumors online had predicted the second coming — or, rather, the fifth coming. It would be wedge-shaped! It would be completely transparent! It would clean your basement, pick you up at the airport and eliminate unsightly blemishes!

Instead, what showed up was a new iPhone that looks just like the last one: black or white, glass front and back, silver metal band around the sides. And on paper, at least, the new phone does only four new things.      READ REST OF STORY

  1. What do feel are the three best new features of this new iPhone?  Do they make the iPhone more business friendly?
  2. What is SIRI  and is this reason enough to consider purchasing the new IPhone?

Apple has launch another product and the line-ups have already formed, whats new? The short answer is not much. The only new addition of any real note is there new voice recognition software Siri. This new piece of the phone technology is limited and should be chalked up to another part of your phone you will not use. The software has some interesting applications but with it’s small scope it could not be considered a mandatory or even particularly helpful. The one thing that has come out of this new program is potential. With a lot of refinements and significant upgrades this could be a game changer. At the point of time when phones can reliably track voices, it could be bigger than the recent touch screen craze, ”if” and “when”. Most of the improvements to apple phones are simply apple replicating other hand held devices, and the new siri program isn’t ready for primetime yet, so why are people lined up? When did a phone become a status symbol and why? I guess people have always flocked to some products, not because their superior, but because they want to be associated with the brand name. Is this not the same blind (ridiculous) consumerism that has/is causing are current situation?

By far the coolest thing about the iphone 4s is the new siri voice recognition system. Although previous iphones had voice recognition it was very simple and didn’t always work that great. With siri it looks like Apple has addressed this problem. I do agree with the article that the inability to open an app with siri or turn airplane mode on is a bit of a turn off but I’m sure Apple will address this with their next update. Siri technology will be very useful for our new driving laws by reading and writing our texts to us. The new iOS 5 operating system brings some really neat features to texting between iPhones as well as a simple neat notification bar where you can access everything from one convenient screen. The ability to see if someone has read your text message is something I have always envied about BBM. Now iPhone to iPhone texting shows if they have read your text or if they are replying in real time. The new faster processor is always welcome news to users who constantly want faster more efficient devices.

I can’t believe people keep lining up and handing over their money time and time again for nothing new. Worse yet are the people who own an iphone, ipad and ipod, which are all basically the same thing. I myself do not own a smart phone as I have a life in the real world and hobbies that don’t include facebooking where ever I go. I get, in part, the craze for these gadgets that do all these things and have all these applications and consolidate other sorts of hardware (camera, computer etc…) and I even get the “need” for a certain brand. What I do not understand is why people need to get the next generation of the same gadget that is only slightly different from the previous version. Many people will go out to get the next iphone, for example, before their contracts are even matured. This ramped consumerism and lives wasted in a virtual existence saddens me. What is more saddening is that this generation of parents is rearing their children to be as they are or worse. We just watched a video in our information systems class about a couple who were addicted to these kinds of devices to the point where they hardly talked to each other and to the point where their child’s favorite toy was a Blackberry.

I feel the three best new features of the iPhone are: faster chip, “world phone”, and speech recognition. Although I do not know how fast any of the previous iPhones were nor how fast the new chip is, I feel that speed of devices is important, especially for business. This is because it allows employees to do tasks on their phones faster and more efficient saving the company time and money. As for the feature of “world phone”, I feel that this provides a tremendous advantage for businesses that do a lot of business over seas. However, it was my understanding that previous iPhone versions could be used overseas so I am not sure how “new” this feature is. I feel that this is just one of their marketing ploys. Perhaps the most revolutionary features of the iPhone is its built in voice recognition feature. Although the article states that there were previous versions of voice recognition available not only as apps for iPhone, but also on Android operating systems, I think that this new system is more complete and works more efficiently than others. From a business perspective, I feel that this system could be incorporated into business practices by a creative team, which will aid in a more efficient workplace.

I was very much disappointed when this was revealed. I thought it would definitely be the iPhone 5 and would be a bit smaller than the 4. I think one of the good things about the new iphone is the faster speed, not that the Iphone 4 is slow. A phone can never be fast enough. But it’s only a matter of time before the Iphone 5 comes out, which will hopefully be better than the 4S,a lthough I do like the voice recognition.

I feel that the new phone does make it more business friendly. The best three new features for this iPhone would have to be to start, the voice recognition and its functions. This aspect of the new phone makes both casual and business living a breeze simplifying organization tactics tremendously and adds a safety feature for people operating their phones while driving their vehicles/machinery as well as keeps their hands free and brain free while doing other tasks while this element of the new phone acts almost like a secretary. Secondly, its transformation to becoming a world phone giving it the ability to make calls across seas. This is yet another attribute which makes the phone more business friendly especially for those people who are operating their businesses internationally. Thirdly, I think that the faster the better for new technologies coming out these days. If you don’t keep up with the blistering speed some of the technology companies are producing now, you will be in trouble.
Siri is a virtual assistant which makes this voice recognition functions extremely accurate and professional. From the sounds of it, this would most definitely be a reason to purchase the new phone adding precision and simplicity to your phone for either business or pleasure is always a attribute consumers are looking for.

I think the new iPhone’s 3 new best features are SIRI, the iCloud, and iMessages. These features make it easier for users to communicate with each other and their other devices. The iMessage’s allow for cheaper communication between Apple users and follows Blackberry in being able to see if someone has read your message. They make the iPhone more friendly because you can use it for more business related things such as planning your days, getting things on your phone when your away from the office, and lets you communicate with your phone and people in a better way that it could be more useful for your office or out of office communication. SIRI is a built in virtual assistant that helps you navigate your phone, answer questions, and organize your life all through voice communication with her. I do not believe SIRI is a good enough reason to buy the new iPhone, although it is pretty cool what she can do, and it would help organize and plan my life a little better. I would want to buy the phone when she is more advanced and can do more things. Since they say they will add to her brain over time, I think it would be worth it to wait and see what they can get her to do next, and see what advancements can be made in that technology.

You know I think that people are being a little whiny about the name of the phone. If steve jobs had named the phone the iphone 5 people would be ecstatic about the features it has. Instead they get hung up on the name and look, which is still sweet looking, just because it wasn’t what they expected. I don’t own an Iphone 4s but from reading the article it looks really cool. The SIRI software that is on the phone sounds amazing and extremely useful. Another point to be made is that Apple has to save some of there bullets in order to continue being innovative and giving the wow factor. The next phone they release will probably look better and present further improved software technologies to give the ” WOW ” factor. I think that it was smart of Steve Jobs to throw a curve ball with the new phone right before he died.

I think that the new iphone has done a good job in bringing out yet another iphone. Whoever was expecting revolutionary new features was probably a little too optimistic. The new features of the iphone are definitely a step up from the old iphone, just not enough for us to call it an iphone 5. I think the best feature of the new iphone is the siri voice recognition system. It is obvious after reading this article that there have been vast improvements in the area of voice recognition. I believe this feature is going to be the key selling point when consumers are looking into buying an iphone. The faster processor is obviously another key feature of the iphone. I think we will expect every iphone line that comes out in the future to have a faster processor because that is how technology generally works. The camera also seems to be quite an upgrade, which is probably the 3rd best feature of this new phone. I believe these features make the iphone more business friendly, however I think it will be a while before companies start buying their employees iphones. The blackberry still seems the most adopted phone by businesses, however only time will tell if this will continue into the future.

i think the best features of this new iphone is one, the camera since its one of the most used apps that the phone has, Apple made it even more better that its replacing cheap cameras, two, the siri beta app, showing what apple is working on and how apple is so far ahead in technology and three, the speed of the phone. there are many little features i like to address since the biggest fear when iphone 4 first came out was the lost reception, apple fixed it by having now two working antennas to keep the reception at its maximum, and mow having a phone with 64 gigs is amazing.

the new iphone in my opinion is not any more business friendly than the last one.

Siri is the technology that Apple is trying to perfect, unlike its previous voice recognition/ voice command function where it recognizes certain phrases and performs certain actions. Siri actually understands what you say and acts upon it. from giving definitions, making a text message to showing how many calories are in a bagel and the price of gas. Siri is more sophisticated than any other voice recognition out there. i do recomend buying the iphone 4s because of this technology however, siri does not perform all the features that you may need because it does not deal with anything in canada for location services.

I think the introdcution of Siri, the personal assistant trapped in your Apple device, is a very interesting introdcution. Even though it is impressive now, I believe that it is something that will get built upon and get turned into something really amazing.
I believe that the use of Siri makes the iPhone even more business friendly, as previously stated, because it is a personal assistant. Telling Siri “Make an appointment with Patrick for Thursday at 3,” is exactly what you would say to a personal assistant. However, like the article mentions, it is strange that Siri does not interact with more apps. Once they can complete that, they will have a great competitive advantage.

I was very much disappointed when this was revealed, thinking there was going to be drastic changes and becoming the next great phone, although I was probably a little too optimistic on this one given Apple’s past product development. I defiantly got caught up in the rumors and all the hype surrounding this one. I thought it would definitely be the iPhone 5 and would be a bit smaller than the 4. I think a lot of people were also hoping for the 5 as well. I think one of the good things about the new iphone is the faster speed. A phone can never be fast enough, not that the Iphone 4 is slow. I also think the speech recognition is a pretty neat feature. It’s only a matter of time before the IPhone 5 comes to fruition. I also like the fact that is it considered a world phone, where you can make phone calls overseas. The upgraded camera is also pretty cool as well. I don’t use a camera all that often but it’s pretty nice to have (which is pretty much a digital camera and which is also sometimes better than one I own at hand when necessary.

I have to start off by saying that I am an Apple fan. I am typing this on my MacBook, with my iTunes playing with my iPhone sitting beside me. I currently have the 3Gs model and will probably just wait until the 5 comes out and upgrade to that. I have no real problems with my phone, but after reading the article, I am excited for some of the new features, namely the camera. I am not a huge fan of the current iPhone camera. It would be nice to have easy access to a camera that took awesome pics and not have to carry around a separate digital camera. The shape sounds very cool too. The iPhone 4 is a different shape than the phone I have, and it would be cool to see even another new shape. I am just hoping that by the time I am able to “upgrade” my phone, the iPhone 5 will be out on the market because as we all know, Apple products aren’t the cheapest.

the three best features of the new iPhone 4S are Siri, faster chip speed and that it is a world phone. I do think that SIRI makes the 4S a lot more business friendly because you can you tell you phone your schedule and that it also prevents you from double booking yourself like most of us do.
SIRI is a “Speech recognition, Crazy good, transformative, category-redefining speech recognition” meaning that siri can hear you and you can hear siri. I think the SIRI is a good enough reason to buy the new iPhone. do you know how easy it would make life? very easy i would say! I love iPhone 4S and SIRI!

The first of three features that I consider to be the best new upgrades on the iPhone would be its newly upgraded camera. As a little bit of a paparazzi myself I find that the camera I currently have on my iPhone can be a little bit fuzzy on some shots, especially in low light. It would be beneficial for someone like myself to be able to take quick, crisp and clear pictures all from the convenience of my phone. The second feature I think enhances the new iPhone would be its ability to connect worldwide. This makes the iPhone extremely business friendly, knowing if you’re in Canada and need to take a quick call from Japan, with the right provider it’s completely doable. Lastly Siri is obviously one of the best new features one receives when purchasing a new iPhone. Siri is a speech recognition module that essentially turns your iPhone into a personal assistant. Someone like myself who has the time to write down what I need to get done wouldn’t necessarily go purchase a new iPhone for Siri but for an individual with a busy schedule who is always on the go, Siri would be a considerable companion to help make life a little easier.

  18. Taylor Chobotiuk

The 3 best things about the new iPhone 4S is the Faster chip (the same as featured in the iPad2), world phone capabilities (which saves you the tedious process of jailbreaking your phone) and Siri, the speech recognition system. I believe all and all the phone has interesting potential when it comes to future software updates. It was mentioned that Siri is a spectacular voice recognition system that would be expanded on with future updates so I value this paired with the faster chip to accommodate future updates. I also believe that being a world phone will help it gain a competitive advantage to many other business phones.
Siri is iPhones new innovative voice recognition system that is incredibly accurate when responding to dictation. Not only is it a significant innovation, it was also hinted there would be future improvements via software updates. I believe it to be a substantial improvement and I’d be interested in purchasing the 4S solely due to Siri. I’d also imagine it as a beneficial feature to people that are very busy and not looking to fumble around with a keypad to enter in appointments and also, the text messaging feature is perfect for daily commuters.

I think the three features of iphone4 are siri, icloud and iMessages. The iphone is more business friendly because its has helped most businesses to get things done faster.

Siri makes phone calls, sends messages, schedules meetings, sets reminders, and more.Siri does not only understands what you say, it knows what you mean and also figures out the right apps to use to find the right answer.

  20. Breanne Marton

SIRI is a new program ran only on 4GS and operates as a voice command system and will greatly ease some the stresses on busy individuals. By offering a service that reminds you of things you need to do, can wake you up at a certain time and takes voice commands for directions and reminders, this new operating system will greatly increase the usability of the phone. Individuals will use this application as a way of saving time by not having to type things into their phone to set as reminders or alarms and will greatly assist people when they are on the road as they can simply give the phone a voice command for GPS and not have to physically type a request into the phone. This new software will help individuals to be more organized and is convenient in that it can describe most annunciations without much difficulty. By having the phone repeat things back to you and verify your times and locations, this will help ensure accuracy in an individual’s day as well. However, the fact that this new software cannot open applications on the phone itself is a major downfall in my opinion. If the technology is that good that it can determine your GPS location and help set reminders for you, I think that it should be capable of opening up applications already installed on your phone. I’m sure in time though the software will be update to complete these tasks as well.

  21. Kevin K

I’d say that the 3 biggest features of the new iPhone aren’t necessarily products of the 4S itself, but products of the new iOS 5. Siri is the exception, with the other two biggest features being iMessages and newsstand.

I’d say Siri is one of the biggest features because it potentially speeds up many routine tasks that iOS users had been doing for a while, and helps out drivers to keep their hands and eyes on the task at hand while still being productive with their phones.

iMessages is another important feature because for one, it catches iPhone users up to date with something that blackberry users have had for years now in BBM. For two, it connects all iOS users together for free (connecting millions of its users). I recently helped my bro in law find his android phone when he used iMessages to text me to ask me to use google latitude (similar to the new Find My Friends app) to locate his phone, and then I sent that info back to his iPad from my phone and he located his phone.

The biggest feature I’d say (in terms of future business-friendliness) is newsstand because it creates a whole additional venue for magazines and newspapers to market their product. I know that I would be much more likely to subscribe to something like Sports Illustrated or the Ensign if I knew that I could effortlessly carry every issue with me. I imagine that it also reduces costs for the publishers while increasing visibility.

  22. Wale Obateru

SIRI is a virtual assistant. It is an accurate, understanding, uncomplaining, voice-commanded minion. It is really amazing the way technology is rapidly advancing. I found the case of the SIRI really fascinating and intersting. It is amazing how technology has made our lives much more easier. I would say that the Siri is quite enough reason I would want to purchase the Iphone 4S. Having a technolgy I can tell what to do or ask questions and get feedback on my questions really makes life convenient. It enhances organization and allows you to multi-task without having to manually write down schedules of your daily activities. With the technology, it is easy to tell SIRI to remind you of these schedules and you would not have to miss any of them. It is also amazing the path finder features it possesses. Instances where you are driving and you miss your way, you can easily tell SIRI to give you directions. This way, you do not even need a GPS to find your way around anymore. A good feature of this technology is also the fact that you can ask SIRI to look up dictionary words which it provides in a couple of seconds. There is great convenience in using this technology on the go which means one is not restricted to any location or any time frame. Well, SIRI has it’s shortcoming like every other technology due to it not having answers to some questions. But technological improvement will continue to be a continous process and things will ony get better.
